Breaking Newz: 2 men dead after shooting at West Tennessee Street hotel in Tallahassee, Fl

After-hours parties have been a regular occurrence this summer at the former round Holiday Inn on West Tennessee Street.

What happened at 4 a.m. Thursday — about two hours after the dancing began in the conference room of the Hotel on Capitol Hill — was anything but routine.

It started an hour earlier, when an argument started among some of the 100 or so in the room. It turned into a fight involving dozens of young men.

Security was present at the party, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the fight from escalating. Someone shouted, “Where’s the piece?”

Shots rang out and people tried to flee the conference room. Some crawled under tables. More shots were heard in the parking lot.

By a little after 4 a.m., two men in the conference room were dead, the victims of gunshot wounds. Tallahassee police were still interviewing witnesses late Thursday afternoon, trying to identify the victims.

An autopsy will be conducted tomorrow morning at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare, according to Derek Friend, TPD spokesman.

The hotel management could not be reached for comment. There is no number listed for the Hotel on Capitol Hill and a Chamber of Commerce official said it did not have a number for the hotel.

Thursday morning’s after-hours party began after local night club events let out.
The motive for the shootings is unknown, Tallahassee police spokesman David McCranie said.

Officers were looking for possibly more than one suspect, but they didn’t have any descriptions.

Investigators spent the morning interviewing party-goers and gathering evidence. More than a dozen evidence markers could be seen in the hotel’s rear parking lot and on Bronough Street. The hotel and a portion of Bronough were blocked off by crime-scene tape.

Joseph Mackentire, 19, said he had just left the party when he heard between three and four gunshots. He took off running but later returned to find out what happened.
